Training with the PendyBall by Ledragomma original “pezzi”® , which involves controlled rotation movements of the pelvis, is an innovative work method for neuromuscular training of the trunk muscles: in fact, they themselves produce, with coordinated activations, the centrifugal force developed during the exercise inside the ball. Furthermore, by actively blocking the rotation of the pendulum, the involvement of the same muscles in isometric and eccentric mode is enhanced, the latter being particularly important for preventive purposes.

Researchers from the University of Udine have studied the effects of the PendyBall by Ledragomma original “pezzi”® on the activation characteristics of three of the main trunk muscles: the rectus abdominis, the external oblique abdominis and the erector spinae.

Electromyographic analysis showed that the external oblique abdominal muscle, which contracts synergistically with one of the most important stabilizing muscles of the trunk, the transverse abdominis, is active for most of the execution of this type of exercise.
This is extremely relevant, because it also allows older/weaker people or those recovering from an injury to modulate the intensity of the activation of these muscles, for example by choosing the weight of the pendulum and the intensity of the rotation, knowing that they will mainly train these important muscles.

More specifically, it has been seen that the management of the rotation movement of the pelvis consists of two main components: the tonic action of the external oblique and transverse abdominal muscles, and the intermittent activation of the erector spinae, which in most cases therefore defines the rhythm of the movement. The evidence that the coordinative management of the rotation of the pelvis is directed mainly by the erector spinae underlines another very important advantage of this type of exercise in the context of neuromuscular re-education following low back pain.

The rotation movement of the pelvis, which is mainly performed on the horizontal plane, also has a component of lateral inclination of the spine, thus defining a three-dimensional movement. This gesture is as complex to perform as it is useful, because it involves a large number of muscles in a synergic work, and because it implies a beneficial movement of the lumbar tract of the spine. The rotation of the pelvis represents one of the most complete movements in this context, precisely because, if performed correctly, it determines small movements of the lumbar tract of the spine, acting safely on the areas where pain very often originates, determining a greater supply of blood, oxygen and other substances useful for alleviating the vicious circle that determines pain.

*The PendyBall by Ledragomma original “pezzi”® *is the ideal tool for performing rotation movements of the pelvis in a coordinated and controlled way, because the movement of the pendulum inside it gives immediate feedback on the quality of the movement. In fact, from the first moments in which you are sitting on the ball and you begin to rotate your pelvis, your attention falls mainly on the quality of the movement of the pendulum: “does it hit the walls of the ball?”; “does it move circularly and fluidly, or in a disorderly way?”. These instantaneous feedbacks allow you to re-modulate the coordination of the movement, improving it more and more, as well as maintaining high levels of attention and motivation during the exercises. Furthermore, compared to normal Gymnastik Balls, the proprioceptive component is stimulated in an even more important way, that is, the ability that the organism has to perceive itself in relation to space, and between different body districts.

It is available with a 2 or 4 kg pendulum, in two bright colours, fuchsia and transparent blue, and six different sizes: Ø 55, 60, 65, 70, 75 and 80 cm.
